Hi,
Thank you for taking the time to look at my personal website. I am web developer although I’ve not been doing it for very long. But I have been constantly learning new skills (and new programming languages) whilst improving my existing skills. It is my intention to become a professional web developer.
A little more about me and I.T.
I have been studying IT related subjects since I was about 14 when I did a GNVQ in ICT. In sixth form I did an A-level in computing. During that time I also did a course in Visual Basic.
After A-levels I got into De Montfort University in Leicester. There I completed a BSC Honours in an unusual course Electronics Games Technology. It was the first time the university was offering such a course. The course differs from others as it teaches software development by creating games. We also got a chance to study the games industry and computer hardware. It also included 3D graphics modelling and sound engineering modules.
Getting into web development
Most of what I did in university was object oriented programming. During university I did a module about interactive applications. The main project was to create as interactive application on Adobe Director that was to be accessed on the university Wiki page.
I didn’t really get into web development until I decided to learn PHP on w3schools.com. I wasn’t able to find work with my existing skill set so learning new skills was the way to go. After learning quite a bit of PHP, it became quite apparent that I wasn’t able to get the most of the language without going through all the basics of web development.
I also discovered CodeAcademy.com which offers online courses to learn most of the commonly used web languages. From there I learnt HTML with CSS and I found myself getting quite interested and I soon learnt JavaScript and JQuery.
